Well without titles this game would just be plain boring with aimlessness. The thing about titles is they helped me find the rest of Tyria that I had missing and I really discovered a few cool things, most notably the Underworld pass at Lornars which was amazing. And yes, you can get a 10% morale boost and enter, and I'm sure if you brought henchies with a 55 build it'd be weird to get a DP before entering the UW for less life... since you'd lose the henchies behind, although it's soooo long and not worth trying heh.

I like the titles. I've had the game completed on my necro for months now, and I'm not really interested in beating Factions on her, so the Skill Hunter title is giving me something to work towards And I have a ways to go- 21 of 90 skills so far. Ugh!

But without the title giving me motivation to get all the elites I never got around to getting before, I would never have gotten Tainted Flesh and other nice ones.

The titles are fun.

I would like some combo titles for example : 100% explored both chapters we have now, well can't u show that at the same time?

that type of deal... we can only show one, and someone has to mouse over you each time if they wanna see a diff one.. if they even care anyway.. :P

Basiclly more than half of the titles are based on grinding and they are huge gold sinks, from Anet point of view it was to suck all this millions that ppl hoarding in game. But i guess it didn't goes as they thought, it encourages players to Ebay more for getting these title...good job ANet

Makes me wonder if aNet might be doing that on purpose.
Couldn't it be possible, that aNet itself is selling gold on eBay, to make more money?

One title I would like to see is completing the high-end quests/areas in game. Doing all that will require some skill so it won't be just buyable by all the ebay-kids.
Title X : Complete The Deep, Urgoz's Warren, FoW, UW, Titan quests and SF.

Agreed.

Profession-bound titles would be something nice, but there's at least one problem with them. If you get a title (for example, Lich fot your necro) after getting every single skill for your primary, then what happens when the next part comes out? Do you lose that title until you open all the new skills (which means you'll have to buy the new game)?

And then, would there be levels for those profession-bound titles? What would they be and what should be the limits for getting each level? I do have some ideas but I strongly think that developing such things should be in other part of this forum than here

Its human nature that people like to differenicate themselves from others.

Why would people buy 15K armor otherwise - except it allows them to think that they're above other players.

Same with titles - especially a kind of a big deal.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for titles and envy those with some hard to get but it's natural to want to show everyone that you've explored all the map, are a great PVP'er, have identified lots of stuff etc.

It adds another factor on how to "be different".
Faces, hair color etc only give so many combinations, armor gives more, and now titles give more variation.

I myself have asked for an "adventurer" title for PVE questing - it's in sardelic sanatarium if those of you who want to show support....

Yup, I'd like a title track based on these too.
Hell, there's 6 possible tiers right there.

The one that hacks me off the most is the Skill Hunter title track. It takes skill and experience to capture all of the skills (although admittedly less skill in Cantha than in Tyria due to the fixed boss locations).
And it takes you to interesting places, encouraging you to explore.
But it can't be maxed out? So what's the point in pursuing the title...?
I got to the second tier before finding out that it can't be maxed, and was having great fun pursuing the title, but as soon as I found out that it was never likely going to count towards "KoaBD", my enthusiasm for the title vanished.

I really think it shouldn't be based on capturing ALL of the elites but a set amount, otherwise it'll never be possible to max it out.

Also, if you're going to have pointless titles such as Drunkard, Lucky and Hapless, why not introduce a title track for wins / losses in Fort Aspenwood and The Jade Quarry? ESPECIALLY The Jade Quarry. That would encourage more people to play it.

"WHAT I THINK ABOUT TITLES"

How is having more titles going to effect the game in a bad way?

If anything its going to give people more options and more Varying choices of types of titles that person would be interested in.
So all and all the more titles that better if its a way to show your skill and dedications interests how you would like to be percieved, so be it.

If people dont like titles, thats their decision, it its not like your forced to go out and collect them,

Tho it would be nice to see more titles that arnt so reliant on repeating the same thing over and over, and more titles that cover more interests and peoples enjoyment in guild wars the better.

Maybe titles for the highest amount of damage dished out to a foe in a time period of one minute.

A title for the number of times you interupted someone.

A title for number of times you survived with under 10 percent health and recoverd.

"One person titles" which are lost when someone over takes them in score, example fastest person to complete main missions in tryia and canatha from start to finish.

Not a real good title but sure the farmers would like it ^^.
Title for number of ecto collected, title for number of jade and amber collected. I know the jade and amber titles would effect Economy jack it up a bit. These titles would effect the prices good or bad thing I dont know.

Glad someone raised this post.

Titles:

I believe that these came about as a result of many hard core Pve'ers (i'm one btw) feeling that for those hard core Pvp'ers with those cool emotes that anet gave them was not exactly 'fair'.

However my personal opinion of the whole title issue is now getting out of control and is not a fair one either. I elaborate.

1/ Chests: what happenned to all the chests you opened prior to the titkes introduction. Gone with the wind (gwtw)

2/ Identifying rare items/ unlocking items / wisdom: as above

3/ drunk title: waste of time and hard earned gp/k especially after farming was 'fixed' ( notice i dont use the N word "nerfed" )

4/Survivor: very cool? lol you die and you loose it. waste of flaming time (woft)

5/ The 2 that were introduced for the festival lucky or whatever they were. Now these 2 are reall WOFT lol.

imo the titles that correspond to the true nature of pve are, as mentioned somewhere above on this thread are the explorer, protector and elite skill titles. those four show that at least you have done fairly well in the game.

XP titles SHOULD also be made a title, yes there are3 many counter arguments for this such as leaching, bots, 55hps etc etc.

The thing is, that we can have 1001 titles introduced for pve (figure of speech btw) use your imagination.

Anet could have introduced an emote system for us Pve'ers similar to those given to the elite PvP'ers instead of so many lame titles when the core of Pve is simply to triumph at missions/quests and associated matters like exploration and xp, the rest can be scrapped.

My idea of pve titles is simple:

Get one maxed title eg protector of tyria emote of bronze shield
Get two maxed titke eg the above plus protector of cantha emote silver shield
Get three maxed titles eg the above 2 plus tyrian grandmaster cartpgrapher emot gold shield
get four maxed titles eg the above 3 plus canthan grandmaster cartographer emote platinum shield.

once yo obtain platinum shield emote, then and only then should xp count as a title and no need for additional emotes simply, when you activate the emote the true figure of xp to appear under the shield icon.

Looks complex but if y9ou analyse it, the rest of the titles are tottaly irrelevant towrds pve.

New players have a better chance of id'ing rare item than us 'older' players.

Perhaps my idea is not that good but it is a good alternative for titleship, or so i think.

All for now .....

Titles don't hurt anything. Why would you complain about them?

Personally I just think it's useful having a number to show me how many more elites I'm missing. Thirty-nine more...

We can? In what way?

-------------------------------------
And titles is a optional thing.. and not something to complain fair or not fair, gind or no grind. Its only there if you feel like working for it, and not necessary a must.
but that a bit side track off the topic.

Still want to hear about what people think of titles, its good and bad, and the impact it has on people's game playing.
Do you think it work? Not work?

Questing titles - Should include ALL non-repeatable quests, including Hidden quests, Class-specific and normal quests.

UW/FoW titles (2 titles) - Increment each time you do ALL uw/fow quests in ONE RUN.

Normal Skill title - Straightforward. Highest level is for Fully Unlocked characters.

Survivor - Eliminate the 0 death-ever rule, and just give this for achieving the required exp without a death.

Drunkard/Lucky/Unlucky/Wisdom - Silly titles just there for fun, therefore they should NOT count towards KoaBD.

Elite Skills - Make it maxable!

Two more things I forgot:

Guild Leader/Officer - While these aren't achievements, they would be a GREAT tool for verification and anti-scam. Absolute unfakeable proof that the person is indeed a Leader/Officer.

Show all titles or at least allow multiple titles to be displayed. This is necessary since all the silly titles allow KoaBD at lower difficulty levels.
